tourist information centre is to be found at the top of the Alameda, the
main walking area of Tarifa leading directly to the harbour. They have
small maps of Tarifa and other general information.

Whale
watching Tarifa
There
are now a number of companies organizing whale-watching tours -
in smaller or larger boats, some with a glass bottom. Boats leave Tarifa
most days, providing the sea isn’t too rough. You are almost sure
to see dolphins and pilot whales and you may even see an Orca. The trip
takes about 4 - 5 hours in total - the animals are usually
to be seen nearer the Moroccan coast. Should you be unlucky (which is
unusual) and not see any animals most of the companies will offer you
a repeat trip some other day.

Visit
the castle
The
Castle is being restored and eventually may house the tourist information
office. The story of Guzman El Bueno
is one every Tarifenian will tell you with pride - and it is of
course in every history book or folder on Tarifa. ---

Walking
There
are some fabulous walks - if you are prepared to climb up high (not
mountain climbing, just walking upwards!) you will have some breath-taking
views of Africa. Take binoculars and a bird book - the eagles and
black kites are numerous. From October until the end of May the flowers
are abundant and spectacular - perhaps also a wild flower book would
make your walk even more enjoyable. A bottle of water, a picnic, elastoplast,
camera ……. Click the link below for a detailed suggestion….
None of the brown cattle roaming freely in the fields and hills are dangerous
although when they have young it may be wise to keep your distance. Never
climb over fences or wire enclosures as this usually indicates that the
black bulls are kept here.

A
day trip to Tangier
or
a day and a night in Tangiers, with a one day visit to Asilah (see day
trip to Asilah)
The
fast-ferry leaves a number of times per day to Tangiers, and takes just
over 35 minutes. As schedules change, you should yourself go to the harbour
for the latest information. You can buy your ticket in the harbour itself,
or from one of the travel agents. Before you buy it, read the details
further on in this folder carefully, and decide whether you want the all-in
guided tour, or the individual guide we highly recommend, or whether you
want to ‘go it alone’. A return ticket costs €.52,50.
Note
that in the spring (approximately end March) until late autumn there is
a two hour time difference with Morocco (in the winter months this is
one hour); i.e. if you leave on the ferry at 09.00 and arrive at about
09.45 Spanish time it is only 07.45 in Morocco.
Remember to take this into account for your return also - the ferry
at 17.00 will have you back in Tarifa at around 19.45 hours Spanish time.
REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR PASSPORTS - IT IS NOT THE EU AND IDENTITY
CARDS ARE INSUFFICIENT.

Bolonia
- Roman ruins
Take
a day to visit BOLONIA - first visiting the Roman ruins (take your
passport as entry is free to Europeans), then having a delicious and very
informal lunch at one of the beach restaurants, then a swim in this gorgeous
bay (very little tide so very safe for children) and perhaps a walk around
the bay. We suggest you take our ‘special route’ back at around
7 p.m. (in summer) as with the sun behind you the views of Tarifa are
fantastic. See our detailed route suggestion by following the link below.
